Genesis-chapter 11

11

1.Now the whole earth had one language and one speech.
2. And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that
they found a plain in the land of Shinar, and they dwelt there.
10:10; Dan. 1:2

This verse is referring back to Genesis 10:10, as is noted
above. This verse also says that they “journeyed from the east.”
It is well know that Babel was in the southwestern part of
modern day Iraq. The Ark of Noah, as we know from scripture
rested on the mountains of Ararat. So this tells me that the
Descendants of Noah, up to the time of Nimrod, probably moved
southward, down along the river Euphrates. When we look on
the map, we can see that the Euphrates river is east of Babel.
So in my opinion this is where the people of Nimrod migrated
from.

3. Then they said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks
and bake them thoroughly.” They had brick for stone, and they
had asphalt for mortar.
4. And they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a
tower whose top is in the heavens; let us make a name for
ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad over the face of the
whole earth.” Heb. 11:10, 16

I Believe I can safely assume that before Nimrod and his
people decided to build this great city, that the people of the
earth were nomadic. The only time we hear of cities being built
before this time was in the days of Cain and his descendants.
Again I must remind the reader that this is my opinion, and
my understanding of what is going on here. What the people
doing here is number one, wanting to form a one world order
in which everyone will live under the same laws, religion, language and
system (which today we would call a government). The tower they want to build “whose top is in the heavens, may have also been for the purpose of worship. if so this would be a way of the people saying “look
what we have accomplished,” not giving any thanks to
the Creator God, who has blessed them with the knowledge to
be able to carry out such a task. In verse four it plainly says
“let us make a name for ourselves” as in “we did this, no one helped us”  Verse four goes on to read; “lest we be scattered abroad over the face of the
whole earth.” Again defying the will of God. The Lord commanded Noah and His sons to be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth Gen. 9:1. God intended for the whole earth to be populated, not just a little part of it. If God wanted mankind to live in one tight knit group of people He would not had made the earth so big.

5. But the Lord came down to see the city and the tower
which the sons of men had built.
6. And the Lord said, “Indeed the people are one and they all
have one language, and this is what they begin to do; now
nothing they propose to do will be withheld from them.                                                  7. “Come, let us go down and there confuse their language,
that they may not understand one another’s speech.”

God as we know is the all seeing, all knowing, One, who looks down upon men and sees the evil and the good in them, there is nothing man can hide from Him. He does not have to come down from Heaven to witness the actions of men. Prov. 15:3; Job. 34:21; Psalms 33:14; Jer. 32:19; 16:17;  Therefore He doesn’t need to come down to cast judgement on the people.

8. So the Lord scattered them abroad from there over the
face of all the earth, and they ceased building the city.
9. Therefore it’s name is called Babel, because there the
Lord confused the language of all the earth; and from there the
Lord scattered them abroad over the face of all the earth. 10:10

I believe God had to remind the people of who he is, and his power, and that they need to fear Him, respect Him, and give
praise and glory to Him, and not some tower built by man.
We see in verse seven that God says “let us go down” when
God says “us” he is referring to Jesus Christ, who was with
God from the beginning (Compare John 1:1-3, 14). The believer must never lose sight that Jesus was, is, and will always be, one with God, who sits on the right side of Gods throne in heaven (Matt 22:44, 26:64, Mark 16:19). So God spoke the command to go down and confuse their
language, and scatter them across the face of the earth, and it was Jesus who carried out His word.

10. This is the Genealogy of Shem: Shem was one hundred
years old, and Begot Arphaxad two years after the flood.
10:22-25, 32: Luke. 3:34-36

As has been determined in previous studies, I continue
now with the genealogy of mankind, according to the word
of God as he has revealed to us in scriptures. Arphaxad was
born in 1668 AC (after creation).

11. After he begot Arphaxad, Shem lived five hundred
years, and begot sons and daughters.

Shem lived 602 years and died in the year 2158 AC, and 502 years AF (After the flood).

12. Arphaxad lived thirty five years, and begot Salah.

Salah was born in the year 1703 AC.

13. After he begot Salah, Arphaxad lived four hundred and
three years, and begot sons and daughters.

Arphaxad lived 438 years and died in 2106 AC, and 440 years AF

14. Salah lived thirty years, and begot Eber.

Eber was born in the year 1733 AC.

15. After he begot Eber, Salah lived four hundred and
three years, and begot sons and daughters.

Salah lived 433 years and died in 2136 AC.

16. Eber lived thirty four years, and begot Peleg.

Peleg was born in 1767 AC

17. After he begot Peleg, Eber lived four hundred and
thirty years, and begot sons and daughters.

Eber lived 464 years and died in 2197 AC.

18. Peleg lived thirty years, and begot Reu.

Reu was born in 1797 AC

19. After he begot Reu, Peleg lived two hundred and nine
years, and begot sons and daughters.

Peleg lived 239 years and died in 2006 AC.

20. Reu lived thirty two years, and begot Serug.

Serug was born in 1829 AC.

21. After he begot Serug, Reu lived two hundred and seven
years, and begot sons and daughters.

Reu lived 239 years and died in 2036 AC.

22. Serug lived thirty years, and begot Nahor.

Nahor was born in 1859 AC.

23. After he begot Nahor, Serug lived two hundred years,
and begot sons and daughters.

Serug lived 230 years and died in 2059 AC.

24. Nahor lived twenty nine years, and begot Terah.

Terah was born in 1888 AC.

25. After he begot Terah, Nahor lived one hundred and
nineteen years, and begot sons and daughters.

Nahor lived 148 years and died in 2007 AC.

26. Now Terah lived seventy years, and begot Abram,
Nahor, and Haran.

In order to understand the chronology in which Abram,
was born, we use the same logic we used when we learned
about Noah and the birth of Shem, Japheth and Ham. We
must look at other verses in the Bible to guide us to the year
in which Abram was born as we did with the birth of Shem (Isa 28:9-13). With this in mind, now let us go to the verses that give us clues as to the year in which Abram was Born (Gen 11:32, 12:4, Acts 7:4). In my file on the Genealogy of mankind I have come to the conclusion that Terah was born in the year 1888 AC. And died in the year 2093 AC. With this in mind, we know that Abram was seventy five when he departed from Haran,
after his father had died. This puts Abrams birth at the year 2018 AC.

27. This is the genealogy of Terah: Terah begot Abram,
Nahor, and Haran. Haran begot Lot.  Josh. 24:2
28. And Haran died before his father Terah in his native
land, in Ur of the Chaldeans.

The Bible does not tell us how old Haran was when he died
We just know that he died before his father Terah. We do
know where he died. The land of Ur of The Chaldeans is
located in the northeastern part of modern day Iraq,
somewhere along the Euphrates river, maybe even along
the Syrian, Turkish border.

29. Then Abram and Nahor took wives: The name of
Abrams wife was Sarai, and the name of Nahor’s wife
Milcah, The daughter of Haran the father of Milcah and
the father of Iscah.

After Haran died, Abram and his brother Nahor
got married. We know from these verses that Nahor
married his brother Haran’s daughter Milcah, who also had
a brother named Iscah, who is the son of Haran. Basically
Nahor married his niece. Back then, this would have been
okay for Nahor to marry his niece, according to the customs
of the day. Without going into great detail of the customs
back then, and the holiness of Gods chosen people, let me
just say, from my understanding of the scriptures, and Gods
overall plan to keep the seed of Adam all the way to Jesus
holy, this marriage plays a part in the overall scheme of
things. Scripture does not tell us what tribe Sarai comes
from, we can rest assure that whatever tribe, that the
holiness of the seed of Jesus was not defiled.

30. But Sarai was barren; she had no child. 16:1,2
31. And Terah took his son Abram and his grandson Lot,
The son of Haran, and his daughter in law Sarai, his son
Abram’s wife, and they went out with them from Ur of the
Chaldeans to go to the land of Canaan; and they came to
Haran and dwelt there. 12:1; 15:7; Neh. 9:7; Acts. 7:4

For whatever reason, Nahor and his wife Milcah, and
Haran’s son Iscah did not go with Terah out of the land of
Ur.
32. So the days of Terah were two hundred and five years,
and Terah died in Haran. Acts. 7:4

Terah lived 205 years and died in 2093 AC.
